The Scrim Advantage: Why “Reinforced” is the Industrial Standard
Standard foil is a vapor barrier, but reinforced foil is a structural component. By embedding a bidirectional fiberglass scrim, we’ve created a tape that can be pulled at high tension around large-diameter ducts without breaking, ensuring a tight, hermetic seal that lasts for decades.
| Technical Property | Standard Foil Tape | KAWIN Reinforced (FSK) Grade |
| Backing Structure | Soft Aluminum Foil | Foil + Bi-directional Fiberglass Scrim |
| Tensile Strength | ~45 N/25mm | ≥ 150 N/25mm (High Load) |
| Tear Resistance | Low (Propagates easily) | Extreme (Self-Extinguishing Tear) |
| Flame Retardancy | Not Rated | UL 723 / ASTM E84 Class A |
| Application Temp | 10°C to 40°C | -20°C to 50°C (Cold-Weather Adhesive) |
Key Performance Drivers
Dimensional Stability: The fiberglass reinforcement prevents “creeping”—the tape won’t stretch or shift over time, even when subjected to constant vibration in high-velocity ductwork.
Thermal Bridge Elimination: The high-emissivity surface reflects radiant heat, while the thick adhesive layer ensures a thermal break at the seams, preventing condensation in chilled water systems.
Advanced Cold-Weather Acrylic: We utilize a high-tack solvent acrylic that “bites” into FSK facing and metal surfaces instantly, even in unheated construction sites during winter.
Puncture & Abrasion Shield: The scrim acts as a protective grid, preventing sharp edges or external tools from piercing the vapor seal.
Application Scenarios: Where Strength is Non-Negotiable
FSK Duct Board Sealing: The perfect match for Foil-Scrim-Kraft insulation facings, ensuring aesthetic and structural continuity.
Large Diameter Pipe Wrapping: Ideal for heavy-duty thermal insulation in oil refineries and chemical plants where high-tension wrapping is required.
Marine & Aerospace: Used for securing insulation blankets in engine rooms where vibration and heat resistance are critical.
Cleanroom Construction: Low-outgassing properties and high durability make it the standard for sealing ceiling panels in pharmaceutical labs.
Custom Engineering & Bulk Supply
As an ISO-certified manufacturer, we provide tailored solutions for complex projects:
Scrim Density Customization: Standard 5x5mm or high-density 2x2mm mesh for extreme tensile requirements.
Widths up to 1200mm: Ideal for wide-area shielding and large-scale lamination projects.
Die-Cut Shapes: Custom-sized discs or rectangles for rapid masking in industrial coating processes.
Logo Printing: Brand your reinforced tape with UL-marking or company identification.
FAQ
Q: Is reinforced foil tape more difficult to cut than standard tape?
A: While it is much harder to tear by hand, it cuts cleanly with standard industrial shears or tape dispensers. Its resistance to accidental tearing is exactly why it is preferred for high-stakes sealing.
Q: Does the fiberglass scrim affect the moisture barrier?
A: Not at all. The scrim is embedded between the foil and the adhesive. The solid aluminum top layer remains a zero-permeability vapor barrier, protecting the insulation from moisture and mold.
Q: What makes your “Solvent Acrylic” better than “Hot Melt”?
A: Hot-melt adhesives are cheaper but fail in the heat. Our Solvent Acrylic is cross-linked, meaning it won’t “soften” or slide when the ducts heat up to 100°C+, ensuring the bond remains permanent for the life of the building.
